http://www.top5autorepairs.com Top 5 Reasons Why You Are Getting A P0172 And P0175 Code Top 5 reasons why you’re getting a P0172 and P0175 A P0172 and P0175 is an indication of a very rich fuel mixture. More fuel is mixed with air. This will cause a reduce engine power, foul spark plugs, and incomplete burning resulting black smoke at engine exhaust . The rich condition will cause a negative fuel trim in the short term fuel trim and long term fuel trim. Now here are the top 5 reasons why you’re getting a P0172 and P0175. Number one. Mass air flow. A dirty or faulty mass air flow can report that more air is entering the engine than it is. The computer will increase fuel therefore giving more fuel than it needs. This will trigger a check engine code. Make sure the mass air flow is not dirty and use a CRC mass air flow cleaner. Number two. Defective coolant temperature sensor. A defective or improperly functioning coolant temperature sensor can cause the engine to run richer. This is due to the coolant temperature sensor reporting a lower temperature reading therefore the computer compensate by increasing more fuel. Number three . Faulty fuel pressure regulator. A faulty fuel pressure regulator will cause a rich condition and fuel pressure will be higher than usual. Number four. Stuck open fuel injector. A stuck open fuel injector will spray more fuel into the combustion chamber than it should. Number five. Stuck open thermostat. A stuck open thermostat can prevent the vehicle going into closed loop. In addition, a faulty oxygen sensor will also prevent the vehicle from going into closed loop. Moreover, some of the symptoms are a sign of a possible that the vehicle is running rich. Burning oil, rough idle, running rich after replacing cam, black smoke, misfire and so on. Replacing the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 997.2 Mass Air Flow Sensor MAF to fix P0172 and P0175 OBDII Codes. The check engine light came on due to the system running rich. This was being caused by a MAF sensor that was going bad. I diagnose and explain the process of resetting the computer to get rid of the code, and replacing the MAF sensor to fix the issue. Come along with Eric O. at the SMA shop as he has a look at this 2006 Chevrolet Silverado Flex Fuel with the engine light on and codes P0172 and P0175 Rich on Bank One and Rich On Bank 2. While this code can be a lot of different things the first thing you need to look at on this vintage GM is the Alcohol % Data PID. Also we make sure that the vehicle has the most up to date software from GM. Important: The system is initialized by baselining itself on ASTM spec Gasoline (alcohol 0–10%). When an E85 compatible vehicle is built, an ECM or PCM replaced, or if the learned alcohol content has been reset with a scan tool, the fuel system will need to contain ASTM spec gasoline with 10% or less ethanol content. If the fuel in the fuel system needs to be drained and replaced with ASTM spec gasoline, the vehicle will need to run for approximately 11 km (7 mi) at full operating temperature before the system will be fully adjusted to the correct alcohol content. Once system initialization has been completed and the calibration verified to be the below listed calibration part number or later, gasoline with any ethanol content between 0 and 85% may be added, provided it is added in a quantity of 11 Liters (3 gallons) or more, and the vehicle is run long enough to learn the new fuel After the re-fueling event, the system registers the amount of fuel that was taken on-board, relative to the amount that was in the tank. Reading fuel trim and O2 sensor activity, the system determines the ethanol content of the fuel that was added. Based on that determination, it adjusts itself to the expected alcohol mix in the fuel tank and lets the fuel trim and O2 sensor activity fine tune the adjustments. The system must remain in closed loop in order for this adjustment to occur. Numerous short trips after switching from gasoline to E85, or vice versa, can result in driveability symptoms due to the inability of the system to adjust for fuel composition (by not attaining the parameters necessary to reach closed loop operation) Interested in stuff seen in the videos or the tools and toys Eric O. likes and uses?
