From the Port, it takes 20 minutes to drive to the city of Athens. If you wanted to explore Athens on your own, it'll take 1 hour by subway or 40 minutes by bus. I don't think that's worth it. I would probably take a taxi instead. It should cost about 9 euros each way. Once you somehow get your way in Athens the city is really walkable. All the popular sites are pretty close to one another. Because of that, after the tour I felt like I could have explored Athens on my own and saved the money. But I'll let you judge the experience. Our tour cost 95 euros/person. Top Sights in Athens, Greece: 1) Acropolis If the line is long, they also have another entrance in the south side that is away from the parking lot so it much fewer people. Tickets for Acropolis is 20 euros a person. Once you get in it is a little hike up to the top of Acropolis. Located on the southwest slope of Acropolis is this stone theatre built in 161 AD. This theatre holds 5,000 people and was used for music concerts. 2) Parthenon The most famous building in the citadel is the Parthenon. It is a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena. 3) Erechtheion This is a Greek temple on the north side of Acropolis dedicated to Athena and Poseidon. On the south side of the building is the famous "Porch of the Maidens" with six female figures as supporting columns. 4) Hadrian's Gate It was built to celebrate the arrival of the Roman emperor Hadrian. It's kind of like the roman triumphal arches. It is made out of Pentelic marble. This is the same marble used for the Parthenon. 5) Temple of Olympian Zeus Don't waste your money going into to see the Temple of Olympian Zeus as you can actually see it for free outside the gates. If you want to walk in and admire just how tall these pillars are the entrance fee is 6 euros. 6) Panathenaic Stadium Next stop: This multipurpose stadium is huge! It is the only stadium in the world built entirely out of marble. It used to be built out of limestone. Marble was used in 144 AD. 7) Athen's White House I'm here visiting the white house of Greece, but I haven't even visited my own country's White House. It was built in 1897 for Prince Constantine I. Now it is the official residence of the president of the Hellenic Republic. 8) Changing of the Presidential Guards From here you can see the changing of the presidential guards. Like the guards, in London they also can't make any facial or eye movements and must not show any expression. 9) The Academy of Athens This building is divided into three orders: Natural Sciences, Letters and Arts, and Moral and Political Sciences. 10) Plaka Next stop: Plaka. It's an old historical neighborhood of Athens. It is known as the "neighborhood of the Gods" because it's really close to Acropolis and archaeological sites. The entire area is closed to cars. Plaka has a village feel, with narrow cobblestone streets lined with tiny shops selling jewelry, clothes and local ceramics. ∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙ ∙• Instagram (see beautiful travel pics!): @https://www.instagram.com/the.life.of... ∙• ∙• Facebook (connect with me!): https://www.facebook.com/lifeoflin/ •∙ ∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙ ➜ Watch more videos from my channel here: http://bit.ly/2yGbpeP #athens #travelvlog #travel #greece#tours Music by: Tobu - Life

Entry from: Athens, Greece Entry Title: "ACROPOLIS EXHIBITS MUSEUM" Entry: "The New Acropolis Museum The day is lovely, and I made plans to visit the new Museum today. I am anxious to see the exhibits and the new building so I was there at 9.30 am. The queque was not long, and soon I was in the building, after a check by the authorities , like the one we have in airports. I was waiting for 5 minutes outside, but getting inside I found that I had to wait in another queue for about 15 more minutes. The fee: Just ONE EURO. (one Euro was because it the time I visited the Museum was almost free for visitors)...of course now people pay but I really have no idea what the cost is. The new building is so spacious, and I want to take as many photos as possible. On the way to the entrance, the floor is designed in such way, that the ground underneath can be seen. The whole area under the museum is an ancient city with colorful mosaics, pots, rooms with gutter pipes which make the place the Museum built on, unique. I tried to take many photos, but the reality is something else. This cannot be described so well, unless one experiences it." Reax to rise of prices for historical sites

(1 Apr 2016) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: AP CLIENTS ONLY AP TELEVISION - AP CLIENTS ONLY Athens - 1 April 2016 1. Various of the Acropolis seen from street level, with scaffolding , building work 2. Various of tourists buying tickets with the Acropolis in the background 3. Various of ticket office at the main Acropolis entrance, people buying tickets 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Christiane Pohl, German national living in Greece: "I think it's a good decision in a way because they are really some amongst the most important monuments in the world and the entrance fees are in line I think with many other important monuments, when you go to Italy, when you go to the States, so I think it was a logical move for the Greek government to also increase the prices here." 5. Wide of the Propylaea, the gateway of the Acropolis 6. Various of tourists entering the Acropolis 7. SOUNDBITE (French) Eric (no last name given) tourist from Belgium: "No, when we visit Greece and Athens, we are not going to miss visiting the Acropolis due to the price. Relative to the (price of) trip it is not so important but even so, it is not a good thing to increase the prices for cultural things. In all cases, it is never good to increase the prices." 8. Various of Stoa Attalos at the foot of the Acropolis 9. Various of the entrance of the Ancient Agora with tourists buying tickets at ticket office 10. Wide of the Acropolis 11. Wide of entrance to the Ancient Agora site 12. SOUNDBITE (English) Grainne Hague, tourist from the UK: "Well, I think that actually it is still exceptional value, you get to see all the sites of Athens and it is a four-day-long ticket. We've had the most spectacularly wonderful time, everything is really worth seeing, it's really atmospheric, it's very interesting to see all the archaeological work that is being undertaken. My family and I have enjoyed it very much, and I think it's worth every penny, they could double it again and I would still come." 13. Close up of map of archaeological sites 14. Wide of Ancient Agora site 15. Temple of Hephaestus 16. Pull focus to ancient Agora site STORYLINE: Tourists and others wanting to visit famed archaeological sites in Athens will have to pay more from Friday. MediMoments 2009: Athens, Greece Acropolis museum 2

MediMoments 2009: Athens, Greece Acropolis museum 2

The newly opened Acropolis Museum is as modern as the Acropolis itself is ancient. Down the hill on the back side of the entrance to the Acropolis, the museum plans has been in the works for the last 30 years and displays items from the archeological sites that have never been seen before. The entrance to the museum has incredible glass-like floors that lets one sees the digs below. In its first year, the entrance fee was only 1 Euro. The coffee shop outdoor patio located in the museum gives you an awesome view of the Acropolis above. We were blown away by the beauty and magnificence of the museum and its contents. Jean and I went on a mini-adventure to this museum while the others went shopping at the Plaka. Our tour bus driver dropped us off near the museum and pointed in a direction of the museum. In the 1 hour we had before we needed to get back to our group, we quickly got to the museum, took pictures at the excavation entrance, no lines to get into the museum, walked through all 3 levels, to the coffee house inside where there was a great view of the Acropolis and took more pictures, shopped at the museum bookstore, then took the metro/subway (station right at the museum) to the plaka (the next stop) - all for a total of 2 Euros.
